Made in Cumbria to Ellie Moffatt's orignal recipe using hand picked local damsons, Moffatt's Damson Gin is a delicious liqueur, full of distinctive damson flavour. Perfect as an aperitif, after dinner, as a winter warmer or with a mixer for a long summer quencher.
Ellie Moffatt was the wife of a local farmer, living and working the land in the Lyth Valley. Their income was through the selling of livestock and vegetables from their farm or fruits from their orchard. Damsons from the Lyth Valley were particularly sought after and the income this gave helped them all enormously. As with most people in that time, they tried to be as self sufficient as possible and luxuries were few and far between. But, Ellie made her Damson Gin as a special treat every autumn. |

Over lunch one day, Marilyn Moore (Ellie's grand-daughter) told this story to Mike and Shaun, proprietors of The Bridge Cafe Bistro. The rest, as they say is history. Ellie's traditional recipe was resurrected and is now used to produce Moffatt's Damson Gin, selling 1000s of bottles each year.
In 2008, Moffatt's Damson Gin was entered into the North West Fine Foods Awards. We were delighted to be judged as Winner of the Best Alcoholic Liqueur Award and we are convinced that Ellie would have been too.
